Upholstery - cleaning and care

To help prolong the life of your upholstery fabrics please consider the following:

Cleaning

Follow the specific instructions for each fabric carefully and always check the label, as recommended care for the fabric may differ from the recommended care for the product. Fixed and loose covers can be professionally cleaned in situ.

Dry clean sensitive only Sensitive dry clean only

  • Most of our fabrics have a protective coating applied; however as with all upholstery, periodic cleaning of the entire piece is essential to maintain appearance and prevent premature fading and wear.
  • Clean co-ordinated items at the same time
  • To remove everyday household dust and dirt. Clean regularly by gently vacuuming fabric.
  • Remove all spills immediately. Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry, white cloth, work towards the centre of the spill. Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners as this may damage the furniture. Should a spill result in a stain, refer to your Guardsman warranty where applicable or seek professional advice.

Sunlight

All upholstery fabrics can be affected by light, so we recommend it is positioned away from direct sunlight and heat to protect it from fading and premature wear.

Information and care guides

  • These provide lots of useful information about the features of each product range and how to care for them correctly.
  • To help you make informed choices these are available to view in store and online and will also be delivered with your selected upholstery product.

Seat cushion interiors and covers

To preserve the appearance of your furniture and to prevent fibre and feather filled cushions from flattening, please follow these three simple steps:

  • Cushions and pads should be plumped by beating vigorously on each edge at least once a week. The more often this is carried out, the better the filling will perform
  • Cushion pads should be removed regularly from their outer cover to facilitate plumping and rotation
  • Reversible cushions should be swapped around and turned where possible to ensure equal wear. Non-reversible cushions should have the pad turned inside the cover

Leather and selected upholstery ranges have cushions that are not fully reversible, check the product specifications before purchase to ensure you will be satisfied with your choice.

Selected products have feather filled pads. This is a luxury pad filling and will flatten with use. It is easily restored with the same maintenance regime as fibre pads.
