How to measure for curtains
- Install your track or pole before taking your measurements. Measure the track or pole, not the window itself.
- If using a track to hang Double or Triple Pleat Curtains, maximum depth is 3.5cms. (Top of track to bottom of glider).
- Always use a metal tape measure as a cloth or plastic tape may stretch.
- Double-check all measurements.
- Measurements must be in full centimetres. Where your measurement falls in between two whole centimetres, always round down to the nearest centimetre (eg, for a measurement of 100.5cm, record 100cm).
- The track or pole should extend beyond the window at either side, to allow room for the curtains to be drawn back off the window.
Width
For poles: measure the width between the decorative finials.
For tracks: measure the width from end to end.
If the track overlaps in the middle you must include the overlap.- To optimise the light from your window we recommend your pole extends approx. 30cm either side of the window for goblet and tab-headed curtains.
Drop
For poles: measure from the underside of the curtain ring to allow the pole to be seen above the curtains.- For eyelet curtains: measure from the top of the pole and add 4cm.
- For tab-headed curtains: measure from the top of the pole. To minimise light exposure we recommend you position your pole a minimum of 15cm above the top of the window.
For tracks: measure from the top of track to allow it to be hidden by the curtains.
Measure from the correct point to:
- 1cm above the sill for sill length;
- the desired length for below-sill length;
- 1cm above the floor for full length.
How to measure for pelmets
- A pelmet track fitted with gliders to take curtain hooks is required to hang Pencil Pleat, Double Pleat & Triple Pleat pelmets. This is in addition to the curtain track.
- A pelmet track fitted with Velcro© is required to hang Flat & Box Pleat pelmets. This is in addition to the curtain track.
- Install your track before taking your measurements. Measure the track, not the window itself.
- If using a track to hang Double or Triple Pleat Pelmets, maximum depth is 3.5cms.
Width
For pelmet width, measure the distance between the wall and the front of the pelmet track (a), along the front length (b), and back to the wall (c), then add together.
Drop
For tracks: measure from the top of track to allow it to be hidden by the pelmet.- As a guide, to determine the pelmet length, divide the curtain length by six (e.g. length of curtains ordered 240cm, recommended pelmet length 40cm).
