Blinds - measuring information
How to measure for blinds

  • Blinds can sit either inside or outside a window recess. It's important to decide which you want before taking your measurements.
  • Measurements must be in full centimetres. Where your measurement falls in between two whole centimetres, always round down to the nearest centimetre (eg, for a measurement of 100.5cm, record 100cm).
  • Please note: for fabric roller blinds the fabric will be approx. 4cm narrower than the overall width measurement given to allow for the roller mechanism.
  • Always use a metal tape measure as a cloth or plastic tape may stretch.
  • Double-check all measurements.

Inside a window recess

Width

  • For Roller blinds, measure the width at the top of the window recess, where the blind is to be fitted.
  • For all other blinds, measure the width at the top, middle & bottom of the recess. If there is a difference, record the smallest measurement to ensure that the blind does not snag on the recess when lowered.

Drop

  • Measure the length at both sides and middle of the recess. If there is a difference, order using the smallest measurement to ensure the blind hangs freely.

Please note: for certain blinds that sit inside a recess, the following will be removed from the ordered measurement to ensure a satisfactory fitting:

  • Fabric Roller Blind : 5mm
  • Wooden Venetian Blind : 12mm
  • Metal Venetian Blind : 8-12mm
  • Splitwood Roman Blind : 10mm
  • Natural Roller Blind : 3-6mm

Please note: tab-headed Roman blinds are not suitable for fitting inside a recess.

Bead Trimmed Roman blinds are not suitable for fitting inside a recess. The trim is additional to the ordered length.

Outside a window recess

Width

  • Measure the width at the top of the window recess, and add a minimum of 7cms each side (14cms in total) for the blind to overlap the window.

Drop

  • Measure from the required position above the window down to the required length.
